Angel, lead vocalist for Drop Seven asked me attend their show. We first met when they played at 98 Rocks The Boardwalk in Sept. They are excellent musicians, Angel has great hair, and Drop Seven has a fantastic logo, three good reasons for me to go to their show.
Jerry, drummer. Auggie guitar, Aaron guitar, Angel vocals and wang guitar.
There were two things I wanted to know about Drop Seven, one was what the name
meant.
What does Drop Seven mean?
Angel said there are two meanings for Drop Seven. “When we first started out and I joined the band, both guitar players had seven string guitars and they drop tuned them.” It was no surprise that I didn’t have a clue what the meant, so I asked him to explain. “They dropped the tuning from normal standard guitar tuning where most players play to a lower pitch. It just sounds a little meaner.” As for the second meaning Angel said, “I come form a real spiritual side. Seven is a divine number. So, I want to drop divinity, divineness on earth, but in a cool metal way. So that’s Drop Seven.” (I thought it was a drug reference.)

When I asked who designed the logo they had trouble remembering, “Some lady that
was a graphic designer out of Vacaville, Beth…Bess…Beth?
Why did you choose Metal?
Jerry, “ I don’t think it was a matter of choice. It was kinda of a matter of
something I always did. I have been playing for years and years so I just knew
that was the direction I was going to go. Being a pounding drummer, that area is
where that type of playing goes. That’s where I knew I was going to be.”
Auggie, (who has beautiful eyes) “Metal, the heaviness, the feeling, it’s
aggressive. I like the way it makes me feel when I play. It just makes me want
to kick the wall down or something. Metal is what I was brought up on, you know
early Van Halen, early Aerosmith, my brother gave me those first tapes and it
just got heavier and heavier.
Aaron, “I just enjoy the driving force. I just like head banging really. The
music lifts me up and gets me motivated.”
Angel, “I think metal just kinda moves me I guess. Other music moves me too,
metal really gets me going and I love it.”
What would you like to have the band accomplish over the next year?
Like many of the other bands, they want to be at Ozzfest next year. They would
like to get a full length CD out and then start shopping around. Right now they feel
they are a more underground than mainstream. Angel added, “Hopefully, we will
be picked up by a nice label and touring. We just want to let people hear our
music.”
Band members tend to function like parts of a single organism. Drop Seven's band
members have a fantastic sense of humor so I asked them....
Who is the mouth of the band?
“Angel” was the unanimous answer.
Did you just fall into that or did they take a vote and make you do it?
Angel: “We just kinda naturally… We are like this machine. I don’t know…we just
naturally click. Everything clicks. Everything sounds the way it should and we
all have great ideas and we throw it in a pot and it comes out what we feel is
some pretty sick shit so we hope that other people feel the same way.”
“He is the singer he’s got the mike
so give me the mike and I will talk some shit.”
Who is the brain of the group?
They agreed that everyone is the
brain of the group. “It can’t be just one person. It is a collaboration of
everything.”
Who is the backbone, the strength of the group?
Again, they agreed everyone in the
group working together gives the group it’s strength. Angel said, “I think
everybody, if we have a practice and Jerry isn’t there, we are just a jack off
band of guitars. If Auggie isn’t there, one of our guitar players, we are a
heavy band, but we are not Drop Seven. Aaron, killer base, with out him it is
nothing just a bunch of guitars. Each piece is important so each one is needed
at all times.” Jerry added, “What he is trying to say is, he doesn’t want me to
miss any more practices.” That remark cracked everyone up.
Who is the band liver? Who can drink the most alcohol?
They liked this question and they
were very quick with these answers, "Auggie for sure." "Augustine." "He can
have 10 drinks before the show. He said he had 5 so far." "Auggie has so much
experience he can play hammered.”
Who is the band stomach? Who can eat anything and everything without
getting sick?
This question seemed to hit on a band inside joke.
Jerry, "Two filet of fish and all the fries you can give me.”
“That’s Jerry.”
“Jerry can spend $40 at Taco Bell.”
“And 5 hours later get the midnight munchies and go to fucking Jimboy’s for
something else.”
Who gets hit on the most by the girls?
“Angel.”
“It’s not cause he is good looking, it’s cause he is the singer.”
They told me there was a girl at one
show that was completely mesmerized with Angel. She was followed him
around "like a little puppy. Eyes wide open the whole time, she wanted it bad.”
Angle seemed slightly embarrassed by the incident which was reason enough for
the band to bring it up.
Who screws around the most? Who is the band penis?
This caused a few groans. They are all married and faithful to their wives. Sorry girls you have to settle for admiring them for their musical talent.

Drop is a band you enjoy hearing and
watching. You come away feeling after their performance. And EVERYONE
must see Angel head bang, it is an amazing thing!
