I
went to the Battle of The Bands finals at the Rock Nightclub in Maplewood, MN.
The club was nice, but kind of small, although they did have tables on the floor
near the stage which was a nice treat while listening to the other bands play.
Five bands were in the competition, but I was only there to see one, Murge. I
did however enjoy a band called Saving One. Saving One was the second band to
play that night. Murge, unfortunately, was the last band to play. I say
unfortunately because by that time it was near midnight and most of the people
in the club had left. It was unfortunate for them because the night was solely
based on votes. Murge took the stage and rocked the nightclub (no pun intended.)
I haven’t seen a live local band like them since
World Without
Sundays. Of course, I am biased and World Without Sundays has that special
place in my heart, but Murge really struck a high note for me.
Everyone in the band was very friendly and answered my question honestly. The
night turned into day and they announced the winner. I didn’t really hear who
the runner ups were because I was chatting with Brian (singer) at the time, but
I later found out that Murge got 4th place and $250. The Unmundane, who
performed first that night won 1st place. The 1st place winnings were $1,000 and
an opening spot for a larger band at the Myth. I was bummed Murge didn’t win,
but they were excited with the $250. Good guys all around.
